Katy has been teaching classical ballet for thirty years and is a very experienced teacher. Her teaching method is based largely on that of her mentor Maria Fay and is derived from the Russian Vaganova system. Katy also brings her knowledge of fitness and Pilates into the ballet studio to help her students develop into stronger, fitter dancers who are less susceptible to injury.
Katy has a Diploma with distinction in Classical Ballet Teaching (British Ballet Organisation) and has been the senior ballet teacher at Mid Wales Dance Academy in Brecon since 2007. Many of her former pupils have gone on to train full time as professional dancers and are now working in the dance profession.
Katy was the dance tutor on the Performing Arts BTEC for NPTC college and has also done additional guest teaching work with Arts Educational School, Cecchetti associates and taught Professional open classes in London. She currently guest teaches at Kings International Ballet Academy and has guest taught for professional companies Ballet Cymru and Maine State Ballet (USA).
